Cambodia Mission
For the last several years, Cambodia has been in the media spotlight as host to one of our world’s fastest growing arenas for human trafficking. Children as young as five and six years old are sold for sex, by strangers and, more likely, by their own families. We have a long-term team stationed amongst these children who have seen the worst with their very own eyes. Our team does prevention with the children waiting to be rescued, has assisted in many actual rescues, works in after-care with children coming from the sex parlors and brothels, and simply lives and does life among this horrific crime.Since the end of the tragic civil war 30 years ago, Cambodia has been populated by people who lost everything in the genocide. No one in this country was untouched by the horrific demoralization of the Communist regime. Because of the great hardship and poverty they have endured, people in Cambodia have hardened their hearts instead of reaching out for the God who loves them. They have turned to the gods of money, lust, and mere survival. Many Cambodians and ethnic Vietnamese living in Cambodia see selling their children as the answer to their struggles for survival.

In America, we are daily becoming more aware of this problem of human trafficking. In Cambodia this summer, you can be part of the solution. We will leave the rescue and after-care of the traumatized victims to the professionals who are trained to do their jobs; you will be serving these existing hard-working organizations by helping to stop the problem before it even begins in the life of another young child. Your team will be doing prevention work among the uneducated populations who have no idea of the realities and horrors of the sex-for-sale business. You will be going deep in relationship will the local people as you live among them. You will have an opportunity to speak the words of Truth that might one day bring this entire nation to Christ.

Your main focus will be on a new issue that has just surfaced over the horizon in Cambodia; the sell of young boys for sex. The long-term team in Cambodia is opening a center for sexually exploited boys soon, and you will be the groundbreakers who build trust with these boys. You will also have an opportunity to meet girls who are still involved in daily sex work, and to build friendships with them that lead to freedom. You will get exposure to one of Phnom Penh’s after-care facilities for girls age 16 and older, and if you have skills like playing an instrument, working in retail, training in customer service, or teaching English, you might get to work alongside these women as well. Many other opportunities for ministry exist. No matter where you serve in this nation, you will be Hope. You will be Light. You will be His hands and feet extended to those who are in bondage. Come to Cambodia, and be part of setting captives free.
